Kate Middleton has nothing on Miranda Lambert.
She’s every farm girl’s idol – a fiery, independent country girl who isn’t afraid to say what needs saying and tell it like it is.
Her fiance, Blake Shelton, is even more outspoken then she is!
Blake is my favorite celebrity on twitter because he constantly argues and pokes fun at PETA.
After seeing how popular my post about singers who support animal rights extremists, I knew I needed to give Blake and Miranda their own post to thank them for being such great advocates for agriculture.
With their upcoming wedding, the country power couple has been getting a lot of press.
Miranda was recently on the cover of Health Magazine, discussing her childhood, diet and wedding plans.
Growing up, Lambert was an avid hunter and her family raised their own meat. When asked if it was ever hard for her to harvest their own animals, Lambert said that her parents explained that,
“…Not every animal was a pet — some were providing for our family. It sounds weird to other people, but I look at it like, there are some animals you feed and some animals that feed you.”
That’s not to say that the couple doesn’t have a soft spot in their hearts for pets. Between the two of them, they have seven dogs!
Miranda even started the MuttNation Foundation which raises money to help build animal shelters, fund spay/neuter programs, train shelter dogs for therapy programs, assist wounded military dogs and dogs-in-prisons programs.
Each year, the couple holds “Cause for the Paws” benefit concerts to raise money for MuttNation. This year’s concert raised nearly $294,000.
Their dedication to MuttNation shows that they are celebrities who realize that if you want to help shelter animals then the answer is not supporting animal rights extremists like PETA and the Humane Society of the United States.
The couple has always been outspoken about their love of meat, especially wild game. In fact, Miranda and Blake harvested all the venison that they’ll be serving at their wedding reception.
As a fellow bride, I especially love what Miranda has to say about the pressure to be thin.
“All these stars are so tiny, and they spend their lives trying to be skinny. I want to look my best, but I’m not a model. I’m not an actress. I’m representing normal girls.’
“It’s OK to have a little bit of curve. I’m happy with my body. So many girls come up to me and say, ‘Thank you for being normal,’ and I’m proud of that.”
So here’s a big thanks to Blake and Miranda for being PETA hating, deer hunting, meat loving country folks who support America’s family farmers!
