Spring on a Show Pig Farm

Spring is a busy time on our show pig farm.

Starting in February, our lives are dominated by the birth of new pigs, called farrowing. This year we had 4 sows give birth to 28 piglets.

My brothers and sisters have stayed busy caring for these pigs as they approach weaning. Since I’m away at school, I’m not able to help as much as I’d like but I still manage to fit in a few trips to the barn when I’m at home.

For my basic photojournalism class, I brought my camera along when my sister and I went check on a newly weaned litter. I even convinced her to take a turn behind the camera and snap a few of me and my beloved Yorkshire sow.

I threw them all in a vimeo piece just to make it easier to look through them. Enjoy!
